Everyone wants to engage in their business and personal lives to the best of their ability. We do this mainly through adaptive strategies which we’ve developed in response to the way we view the world. Some of us want to make big things happen by ensuring fairness; others seek to avoid conflict and through seeking consensus, while others might want to contribute in a way that is most meaningful and deeply authentic etc. These strategies help us make sense of what we’re doing but ultimately they’re limited. When challenged we become highly defensive and stressed. For example, some people find it easy to work under adverse conditions. Crisis management and troubleshooting are tackled effectively. This arises from a strategy of scanning the environment to check for hazards and pitfalls. However, it becomes a habit and can result in a lot of self-doubt, mistrust of others and procrastination.
