Michael Hales Artist

Michael Hales was born and raised in Maidenhead, Uk. He currently lives in Emly, Co. Tipperary working from his own studio. He studied Fine Art at Margaret Street, Birmingham School of Art and Design in the early 1990’s. Abstract works by artists such as Bridget Riley, Sean Scully and Gerhard Richter are strong influences. Michael Hales has developed his practice through working in encaustics, combining the fluidity of the beeswax & damar resin with the vibrancy of oil painting. Through this bold use of colour applied in layers using heat and carving previous strata the paintings are developed.
